In these difficult economic times, we must be creative and proactive to ensure an adequate supply of food and administrative funds to continue to get the food to those in need.  We are truly blessed here in Washington County with numerous businesses and corporations, as well as hundreds of individuals who understand the importance of adequate nutrition for all of our neighbors.  Because they understand this importance, they regularly give us their support through monetary donations, food drives and other services, and for this we are eternally grateful.

In order to continue to help those in need in our area we have added two new programs during the past 12 months –

• In the spring 2010, we began the Commodities Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) that serves low income seniors with incomes at 135% and below the Federal Poverty Level.  We currently have a caseload of 520 people with a possible expansion in 2011.
• During the summer 2010, we participated in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program (TANF) that provided food, household hygiene and cleaning products for families with children under 18 in the home at 185% and below the Federal Poverty Level.

We have also worked closely with the 2000 Turkey campaign committee to provide gift vouchers and holiday meal items to all of our registered clients for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in both 2009 and 2010.
The support we receive from volunteers is our lifeline.  Without the hundreds of volunteers who give us thousands of hours of their time each year we could not survive!  I would like to extend an invitation to all who may be interested in joining our volunteer family (Food Bank Friends) and experience the deep satisfaction of helping us with our mission.
